In January 2006 work started on excavating the lake, in the heavy clay field in front of Canal Farm -quite a feat!  Then the surrounding area landscaped with extensive hedge and tree planting programme.  It’s quite amazing to look back at how it’s developed over the years!

The fishing lake at Canal Farm now!

Now 15 years later the lake and the surrounding woodland and hedges have matured, creating a sheltered haven for fishermen and wildlife.  The fish in the lake have grown to a considerable size – a carp of 25lb was the record in 2020!  The fishing is exclusively for our guests, and because the lake is not over used the fish are in excellent health.

Filling the lake provides an opportunity for water sport!

In go the fish!

We did so much hedge and tree planting in freezing conditions! The ground was so hard! We are reaping the benefits now the woods have matured!
