Fishing Lake

In 2006 we decided to create a wildlife conservation area, with a lake, in the heavy clay field in front of Canal Farm.  The lake was excavated and the surrounding area landscaped with extensive hedge and tree planting, with most variety of trees being native to Britain.  The lake was stocked with coarse fish, including mirror, common and crucian carp, barbell, rudd, roach and tench.

Now 15 years later the lake and the surrounding woodland and hedges have matured, creating a sheltered haven for fishermen and wildlife.  The fish in the lake have grown to a considerable size – a carp of 25lb was the record in 2020!  The fishing is exclusively for our guests, and because the lake is not over used the fish are in excellent health.  

The lakeside path is enjoyed by all our guests, a stroll in the evening is often rewarded with the sight of the Barn Owl hunting, or in summer the swallows swooping to catch flies!  The famous Lincolnshire sky can be appreciated in all its glory reflected in the water, dramatic sunsets to perfect blues.

The on-site fishing lake is an exclusive facility available free of charge to our cottage guests only. It is positioned just 400 metres from the holiday cottages along a dedicated footpath.

There is a small lakeside fishing lodge available for storage of fishing equipment which also can be used for the fisherman´s partner or family to sit and relax and watch the fishing in progress, a picnic table and chairs are provided.
